Growing Up British

04:28

Hey!
Yesterday I saw the hastag #GrowingUpBritish trending on twitter and after looking through all the nostalgic tweets I thought that I'd take you all for a trip down memory lane and  remind you all what it was like to grow up with all the wonderfully British things we had...

1. Always being jealous of the schools who got to go on 50/50
I used to love this show to pieces and dreamed of the day when the headteacher would announce to us that we were going on 50/50. Yeah, that day never came.

2. Feeling so badass sitting on the benches when you got to year six
I mean, it felt like you owned the school and made you feel on top of the world. When in reality you were the girl who wore the clip-in red streaks and braids. But, along with that came the...

3. Good Morning Song
Teacher: Good Morning
Students: Good Morning Mrs/Mr. Good Morning Everyyyyyyoneeeeee

4. Tracy Beaker
When you shouted 'BOG OFF' to your parents and slammed your bedroom door thinking you were the next Tracy frickin' Beaker. And wanting to be BFF's with the Wellard's. Those were the days.

5. Feeling distraught when the last episode of Dick & Dom in Da Bungalow aired
This show was the reason why I woke up on a Saturday morning. I'll never forget the years of creamy muck muck, Melvin O'Doom's dancing, Eeny Meeny Macka Racka Rari Dominacka Shickapoppa Dickywhopper Rom Pom Stick and of course BOGIES

6. In assembly when it was your turn to use the projector
At my school, we used to take it in turns for two people to slide the lyrics for the hymns on the projector and you felt like royalty when it was your go. And, if you're lucky, you'd get to choose the song. Two absolute classics were 'He's Got The Whole World' and 'Rise, Shine, Give God the Glory'. Yep.

7. Completely bawling when the best people died in Waterloo Road
Sambuca AND Tom Clarkson. Come on, seriously?? I'm tearing up now just thinking out it...

8. Getting utterly off your face at school discos
It was the fruit drinks and sherbet packs, they just got to me.

9. Road Safety Adverts
Never forget the hedgehog road safety advert. So cute back then. Oh and the one of the girl who didn't dress bright in the dark. That one gave me nightmares and scared me for life!!

10. The end of Woolworths
Woolworths was THE shop. The toys, the pick n mix. Ugh good times.
